How to Use Event Categories to Reach More Attendees

Created: Today

Every event is assigned a category. This category determines which category page your event appears on and helps attendees find it when browsing by type. Choosing the right one gives your event relevant exposure beyond the main Explore page.

Available categories

The available event categories are: Arts, Birthday, Bootcamp, Business, Carnival, Comedy, Competition, Community, Concert, Corporate, Education, Entertainment, Food, Hangouts, Music, Religion, Retreats, Seminar, Social, Sports, Technology, Tournaments, and Wedding.

Each category has its own page, for example, showrave.com/music or showrave.com/sports, where all events in that category are listed.

How to set your event category

The Event Category field appears on the event creation form at the top of the Event Details step. Choose the category that best describes the primary type of your event.

If your event falls between multiple categories, pick the one that best describes how your target audience would search for it. A corporate networking evening fits better under Corporate or Business than under Social, even though it has social elements.

Updating the category on a published event

If you chose the wrong category, you can update it at any time by editing your event. Go to My Events → Live Events, click Edit, and change the Category field. See How to edit your event details.

Why category matters

Beyond the Explore page, category pages are indexed by search engines. An event in the correct category can appear in search results when someone searches for that type of event in their location. A miscategorised event misses that audience entirely.
