Your event category determines which category page your event appears on and helps attendees discover it when filtering by type. Choosing the right category improves your event's visibility to the right audience.
Set the category during event creation
- In the event creation form, find the Event Category dropdown on the Event Details step.
- Select the category that best describes your event.
The form note confirms: "Choosing relevant categories helps to improve the discoverability of your event."
Available categories
The available categories are: Arts, Birthday, Bootcamp, Business, Carnival, Comedy, Competition, Community, Concert, Corporate, Education, Entertainment, Food, Hangouts, Music, Religion, Retreats, Seminar, Social, Sports, Technology, Tournaments, and Wedding.
Choosing the most appropriate category
If your event fits more than one category, pick the one that best describes the primary experience, how attendees would search for it. A corporate team-building day is better filed under Corporate or Business than Social, even if it has social elements. A fitness bootcamp is Bootcamp, not Sports.
Each category has its own page on ShowRave, for example, showrave.com/music, that is indexed by search engines. The right category puts your event in front of people already looking for that type of experience.
Change the category after publishing
If you chose the wrong category, update it at any time by editing your event. Go to My Events → Live Events, click Edit, and change the Event Category dropdown. See How to update your event category.
